A lot of JW's are highly skeptical of Dr.'s. I frequently heard remarks such as, Dr's don't know anything, they just want your money. And they are part of "Satan's system" and they have a "worldly education" as opposed to being educated by Jehovah.

Why do many JWs neglect their health conditions?
by navytownroger inmy former bible study conductor has heart problems and very high blood pressure, but doesn't seem concerned about it.
another witness i knew had heart problems but never went to doctors, & eventually dropped dead suddenly.
given that cigarette smoking is a disfellowshipping offense, why aren't jws reprimanded when they otherwise neglect & jeopardize their health?

New Aussie craze KRISPY KREME doughnuts --What is in them? WHY?
by Witness 007 inpeople are driving for miles to the few shops that have opened....many pioneers leave there own congregation territory to buy some 1 hour drive away....i took a box to my witness work mates...they acted like i was giving them gold!
poor witnesses.
they do taste excellent fresh....coffee shops like "starbucks" never took off here....were not big on coffee.

The thing about the Krispy kreme is only the plain ones are made fresh at the store. They are quite yummy when you get a hot, fresh one. The rest of them are gross because they are cold and too sugary and made in a factory far, far away. As someone already mentioned the reason they didn't last long is because they tried to grow too fast. They started selling their product every where, grocerie stores, gas stations - everywhere! Too many people got their first experience with a KK donught from Sheetz, which is not the same as getting a hot fresh one from a KK store, and were unimpressed and never bothered to go to a KK store or buy another one from Sheetz

DC Experiences - reality vs. perception
by sir82 inat a recent dc, an elderly sister was interviewed.
she recounted how she endured through many years of her husband's opposition, never giving up, until finally he relented.
eventually, he bacame baptized and joined her in the full-time pioneer work.. end of experience.

I too, was the fool in the audience wondering why things didn't work out so great for me. Dumb 20something pioneer living with my parents, lousy job, crappy car, would never be able to move out on my own. How did these people on the platform do it? Easy, they lied on their FS slips, only had pioneered for a short time hundreds of years ago and act as if they never skipped a beat, maybe thier father-in -law owns a utility company and keeps them on payroll for a tax break or maybe none of it ever happened. I believed it all.

The Friends Ain't So Friendly
by StAnn ini've been thinking.
a lot of posts i read here say things about how the jws are all victims; how people feel so sorry for them; how people believe that the jws they know are really good people who are trapped in a lie.
then i read a lot of other posts about the cruel things the jws do, like shunning, ignoring df'd people on the side of the road with a flat tire, refusing to be charitable to their fellow humans, delighting at the impending deaths of millions of people, and blaming all of their coldness and heartlessness on the fact that they're just following orders from the gb.

As I read this post, I immediately thought of the study mentioned by millgal. It also brought to mind Abu Ghraib and an other study done in the 70's dealing with prisoners and gaurds, and also my in-laws who boastfully declare that they would never turn thier back on or shun a family member (because they are superior to JW's who do such things). The truth is no one knows how they will react in a certain situation untill they are out of the situation and look back and say "My god, what have I done?' - either good or bad.
Too often we are too quick to paint others as monsters and ourselves as saints. There's more monster in all of us than we are willing to admit.

Did you read this: How disfellowshipped family members should be treated.
by Ianua inin the appendix of the new "keep yourselves in god's love"-book i found the following statements regarding contact to ex-jw-family members:.
what if a relative is disfellowshipped?
in such a case, the close bond between family members can pose a real test of loyalty.

The growing irrelevance of the Watchtower message
by drew sagan inin many ways it appears as if the watchtower movement is slowing down.
a number of changes over the last few years certainly show that the watchtower is in a period of transition.
they have cut back on the number of magazines they print as well as lowered the cost of production by eliminating things like hard backed books.

They would be happier with fewer members if it means they would have a stronger core.
The problem is how strong is their core and is that core sustainable.

Painfully Long Prayers on the last day of the 3-day Conventions.
by blkblk13 inanyone else hate this practice?
uve been sitting all day 4 three days @ this place and u just wanna hurry up and finish ur cleaning assignment so u can go out to eat w/ ur friends, but bro.
special speaker from bethel/or do has to give a one man symposium during his prayer recapping every single moment of the past 3 days.. its like they have this formula that they use to determine how long a prayer should be.
-
Amber Rose
The super-long prayers are disgusting because it is so painfully obvious that the speaker is not directing his words to God but to the audience.
"...And may we all remember to fulfill our cong.'s cleaning assignment....and we are so thankful for the contribution boxes that you provided...help us to obey the elders..."

That's amazing! Who would think that in such a highly popuplated area a person would eventually run into some one who was a JW. I mean in a city in America of all places! The hard thing to believe is that it took him 3 years. I think somebody needs help covering their territory in a timely manner.
